A step by step guide to the perfect barn door

Tools used
You’ll need to keep the following tools on hand before starting the assembly process:
- Drill
- Tape measure
- Level
- Pencil
- Phillips head screwdriver
- 2.5mm, 3.2mm, 6mm, 9mm, and 10mm high-speed steel drill bit
- 8mm and 10mm masonry drill bit
Assembly
Door tip: Always make sure your barn door is a suitable height and width to fully cover the door entryway before assembling the tracks.
Step 1:
For the masonry installation, measure a total height of the door height plus 43mm from the floor. Mark out five drill points along a line from this height with a pencil making sure they are level, then use a 10mm masonry drill bit to drill each hole.
Step 2:
Affix the track base onto the guideline with the help of the pre-drilled holes in the track, using a 6mm drill bit for each coach screw in each hole. If installing onto masonry walls, use the 10mm wall plugs provided.
Tip: Avoid over-tightening the screws to keep from damaging the plaster surface.
Step 3:
To join the top mount wheels to the door, first prepare the door by drilling pilot holes into the top of the door on either side where the wheel heads will be placed. Use a 4mm drill bit and measure 100mm from each edge, and another 100mm between the two holes (these come pre-drilled in the wheel bases), and drill holes 35mm deep. Now you are ready to hoist the door into place and fasten it to the tracks with the screws provided for the wheel bases.
Tip: You may wish to cover the edges of the door with masking tape to protect it.
Step 4:
Screw the anti-bounce guides onto the top of the door, one each at a suitable distance between the wheels.
Step 5:
Rotate the anti-bounce guides in place so they fit flush with the door.
Step 6:
Attach the floor guide(s) to the floor. You can either use a single guide by drilling holes perpendicular to the door (this will also require creating a groove within the bottom of the door by using a router before assembly), or two parallel guides on either side of the door. Use a 2.5mm drill bit for timber floors, and an 8mm plug for masonry floors.
Step 7:
Install anti-jump stops on either end of the track with 2.5mm gaps between the holes, so the door does not come off the track.
Step 8:
Use the blanking plugs to firmly plug the barn door tracks in place. Now your top mount installation is complete!
Note: If you have a stud wall, you need to ensure you fix the track to the studs, which may mean re-drilling the track instead of using the pre-drilled 450mm spacings. Refer to the product information sheet for more details.
